Check in ~ Albany Professional Photographer Thea Coughlin

Ahhhh there is so much to catch up on, I just don’t know where to start!

Last week I had a commercial shoot on Tuesday and then on Wed I was off to SAW.  I spent 3 lovely days there and then was off to Boston for a girls weekend with friends. I will be writing more about the experience of going away sans family, soon.

I came home and was back to a Monday. Trey was at school for a few hours and I wrapped up orders that came in while I was away, downloaded photographs of SAW and the 3 of the portrait sessions I had while there, answered inquiry emails and confirmed appointments. When Trey was done with school we played and spent some much needed snuggle time together.

Yesterday started a bit rough, as apparently Trey does not like all the new Spring shorts I ordered for him online. I have spent the past couple weeks trying to bribe, beg and manipulate him into wearing them, but it has been so exhausting and not very productive.  Yesterday after arguing over the shorts and being late to school over it, I had to take a good look at what I was doing. It was one of those moments I often have in parenting where I am presented with a new situation and feel confused about what the right thing to do is. Will giving him what he wants be spoiling him, or is it appropriate in the situation. Is this a pivotal moment where I need to weild my parental control and teach him that sometimes we have to do what we don’t want to do, or that sometimes things are less than enjoyable, or is it a time when I made my choice without thinking enough about it. I sometimes know it is the latter when all that screams in my head is I am the parent, I am supposed to be the boss! Without any reasoning behind it. When I think of the reasoning and I automatically focus on that he should just submit to my will, I know I have to look at it deeper.

After talking through it with some close friends, I was able to let go of my attachment to him wearing “cool” clothes and came to conclude that in this situation, it is ok to concede to his wants. I mean geez he is the one wearing the clothes all day. If he doesn’t like cargo shorts because they are too bulky, and prefers silky polyester or thin cotton shorts then so be it.  What freedom I felt when I decided I would let him wear what he wants to wear. This morning it was great to say- “you can wear whatever you want to wear”. We are both walking around humming this morning. Isn’t it a gift to see simple ways to bring joy to your day?

So after dropping Trey at school yesterday, I ran to the store to get cat litter (we have three cats all over the age of 12 and our two males are probably in the throws of renal deterioration, as they drink insane amounts of water and urinate like CRAZY-therefore plowing through boxes of cat litter at an alarming rate). Apparently the downstairs litter was too full, so one of our males decided to urinate all over the floor under the laundry table. That was fun to clean up yesterday. NOT. So I spent all of the school hours  on housework and laundry.

I picked Trey up from school, brought him for a haircut-forgot my wallet, came home for wallet and bags to pick up CSA farm share and headed back out to pay barber, pick up our first share of the season (see below) and then right to T ball game. Came home ate dinner, caught up with a few friends on the phone, answered a few emails and before I knew it, it was 8pm, and I miss my husband:(

So I chose to hang out with my husband instead of editing. Hence the lack of a SAW post. We watched the taped Bachelorette and Glee and then I stumbled to bed.

Today we are headed off for the day to visit with my sister in law who is in town with her children, visiting from Chicago.

I snapped a few photos of the gorgeous organic produce we got in the share this week-missing are the snap peas that Trey ate the whole quart of in the car while riding to Tball:)

Snow Peas
Kale

Head Lettuce
Broccoli Rabe
Bokchoi or Tat Soi

I love Roxbury Farms! I will be posting many pics over the next week, so keep checking in:)

These vegetable shots are wonderful! I love the background that you used. Put me right back in my Grandmother’s kitchen, who was an avid gardner as am I. Reminds me, I need to get to weeding!
