I know I have said this before, but the best part of my job, is being welcomed to experience the joy and love between family members and loved ones. Extended family group sessions are full of excitement and lots of joy and love.
Ruth called me from Chicago to schedule a session for when her family would be in town for the baptism of her youngest son. Being that the session was at high noon, we set up for pictures under a few trees in the backyard by the pond. I am so pleased with how the images came out.
It is not often I get the chance to photograph four generations.

There is such a sweet bond between Nonno and his grandsons. This photograph where he is talking to Ethan melts my heart, even though it isn’t a picture where they are all looking at the camera.

A larger family group shot.

There are many more to come. I just wanted to post a sneak peek.
I really treasure moving around and capturing organic moments. The challenge of photographing large groups is that often it is a rare opportunity to capture family members together, that live far away from one another, and often the family wants to have more posed shots. Scheduling is a factor as well, because children often have a limited reserve for sitting and posing and often there is an event schedule that needs to be followed. Directing clients to sit here, move this arm, turn this way,and asking bystanders to please stand aside so that people will look at me instead of at everyone else is never comfortable for me. In many ways it goes against my natural instinct as a photographer, which is to hang back and observe.
The reward of capturing extended family and loved ones together in group shots, is priceless.
Thank you Mazzeo family!
