Yesterday Our World Montessori had an in school field trip about Butterflies and Moths. The Scotia Glenville Traveling Museum brought a beautiful collection of materials to the school and gave a wonderful presentation, with fun activities. I had so much fun photographing the event. Click on the link to see a full slide show of the photographs I got of the children exploring all the materials. The magnifying glasses were a huge hit! It was a great hands on experience.
As a parent and a person whose job requires careful observation and tapping into the moods and feelings of children, it is a joy to be in a classroom with children who are excited to be learning. I couldn’t believe all the thoughtful answers the children came up with when asked what they thought was different between a moth and a butterfly.
A visit to the Traveling Museum’s website showed that they will travel for birthdays too. Imagine how cool that would be for a party?
*A little birdie told me OWM may have a few spots that opened up for next year.

How fun! We’re going to try butterfly larvae this year. It’s so nice when kids can get hands on like that.
How fun for them!
