Thea Coughlin is an Albany, NY photographer whose unique, fun, boutique style of photography captures the art in life.
I am a child and family photographer located in Albany, New York. I love spending time laughing with my clients and their families while capturing the story of their life in photographs. I live here in the Capital District with my delightful 5 yr old boy, my charming and loving husband and three cats.

This site is a great place for new clients to get a sense of my personality and what a session with me might be like.
I try to post a couple times a week about recent photo sessions, family fun activities, and cool finds that I think would add a great flair to family and child photographs. I hope you enjoy reading and seeing my photographs. Feel free to leave a note in the comments to say hello. I love knowing you stopped by.

Family Photosession Sneak Peek and Full slideshow!

When Becky called me about a session, we must have talked for at least an hour. How this was possible when she has 5 boys between 17 and 2 yrs old traipsing around the house, is beyond me. I have a hard time being on the phone sometimes with just one.! The joy and exuberance that emanates from Becky, was contagious, and when I got off the phone my cheeks hurt from smiling and I was beyond excited to work with her and her family.

Like many clients Becky was concerned about what to wear and what to have the boys and her husband wear for the session. I am going to admit right here and now.

I don’t feel comfortable acting as a stylist. I admire photographers that stylize their shoots and dream of someday being better at it, but I am not an expert by any stretch. Because of this I purchased a what to wear guide from a photographer I admire and know that is from another state. I often email this what to wear guide to clients when they ask for advice, but sometimes a client still feels lost. In these situations I offer to come by the clients house to look at some options and give my advice.

This summer has been jam packed so the only time I could find to go Becky’s house before the session was after picking up Trey at camp one day. Becky was even more warm and loving in person. She welcomed us into the house, Trey ran off to climb up to their treehouse and take a swim while Becky and I looked through clothes, talked, giggled and even jumped around a bit with excitement when we settled on clothes for the shoot. Trey and I really enjoyed visiting with them and I just knew our session would be a blast.

And so it was!

The session photographs tell a story about a family. There are often so many images in the gallery, that people don’t find it in their budget to purchase all of them. A wonderful option is to purchase a DVD of the gallery slide show. I use a very high quality company that will burn a professional grade DVD that comes in a beautiful leather bound box. You can even choose your own song if you want one other than the one I choose for you. This DVD contains all the images from your session set to music. It will be something you can play and enjoy for generations to come for just $150. Much more economical than purchasing fine art prints of all the images from your session. This of course is always an option too.

Here is a slide show from the Ryan Family Photo session.

These images are web sized. The images on the DVD are larger*

* images from DVD are not in a format that can be used to make prints.

Newborn Photo Session ~ Adrianna ~ Sneak Peek

I was so excited to meet Adrianna. The moment I saw all that gorgeous hair, I squealed in delight. You don’t see this much hair all the time.

The session started as expected. Adrianna had been fed soon before I arrived, and was ready/asleep when we were ready to start taking photos. As expected she awoke after some family shots. Usually at this time the baby is ready for another feeding, and then falls asleep afterward. Adrianna suprised me and decided she wanted to be social. This little one hardly made a peep, she was wide awake, and alert, just hanging out with us. I had such a good time with her.
