Editorial Work ~ Where Women Create

I was giddy when I received my copy of the publication: Where Women Create, in the mail  this week. My photographs were featured in an article they did on the talented and beautiful Sarah Ahearn this month.

I love the idea behind this magazine and was excited to look through the issue. Trey is home from school this week, so I am spending most of my time playing and celebrating the time we have together, but I did cozy up with a cup of tea and the magazine yesterday, and what a treat! I loved seeing into the spaces of so many creative women. I found it so inspiring. I just adore working with Sarah and want to also give a big thank you to Amanda from Where Women Create for using my photographs.

Although this was pretty exciting, it didn’t quite match the giddiness I experienced when I opened the package that contained  Painted Pages (the book I photographed for Sarah Ahearn)*

Oh my goodness it is so beautiful!

Quarry did a fabulous job with the paper and the design just turned out to be such a lovely compliment to Sarah’s work. I love love love what Sarah did and am so honored that I was able to be a part of such a delightful book. Thank you Sarah! Thank you Quarry!

*Thank you so much Regina for sending me your very own copy so I could see it!

Newborn Photography Sneak Peek

Privacy is important to this family, so I am leaving out names and family pictures.

Mom had a few hats that were made especially for this lovely little one.

Mom said she was a lucky Irish blessing to the family, and that they would like to incorporate these little shoes into a picture to represent her Irish heritage.

Hey, I love the pics. I am a friend of Jen Gray’s, and just started checking out your blog. Wanted to let you know. Oh, the reason I checked out your blog is you have a unique name, and Jen posted stuff about you before, and you always comment with xoxoxoxo.

I love that. :)

Have a nice night. :)

Theo ~ Child Photography Sneak Peek

I am so delighted to share with you this recent 6 month old photography session. I took pictures of Theo when he was just a few weeks old. My how he has grown!

Happy Birthday Gia ~ Albany Photographer Sneak Peek

I was so lucky to be able to photograph Gia for her one year pictures. I photographed her new born pictures last year and I was delighted to see how much she had grown!

Gia was full of grins and smiles as soon as I came in. It was a lovely session as you can see…

You’ve done a beautiful job capturing this intimate family moment. Love the big eyes in the image with Gia’s hands over her head. With your conversion, it’s divine!

Beautiful work as always!

How to remember loved ones….

My mom passed away from Lung cancer 9 years ago today. She was 58 years old. I miss her so much. I feel sad that she will never have the joy of knowing Trey, and that he will never have the joy of knowing her. Of course I share my memories of her, and I am sure that her spirit is smiling on him, but I still feel a deep sadness that she is no longer here with us in body.

I decided that each year on the anniversary of her passing, I will make a donation to a cause that addresses lung disease or cancer. A few days ago I saw that Deb Schwedhelm, a photographer I admire was participating in the  fight for air climb in Tampa.  I immediately knew this would be the cause I would donate to today.  Thank you Deb for participating in this cause! Please help Deb reach her goal of $500.

Each year I look at the few pictures I have of my mom. I cherish the pictures I have but I wish there were more photographs that captured what being together was like at each stage of my childhood. Pictures I could share with Trey and that he could share with his children.

This is why it is so important to me to capture as many details of Trey’s childhood as I can. Each year on his birthday I put together a book of pictures from the past year for him. We make a conscious effort to have pictures of each of us with Trey, and use our tripod to get some pictures of the three of us, yet there just aren’t enough pictures of us together as a family just being together.

Photographing families has deepened my appreciation for family photography. There is something so special about capturing the easy casual dynamic of a family just hanging out together. I love documenting these special moments and am often brought to tears when editing, because I am brought right back to the moments we shared during the session. The emotions are brought right back for me, and I imagine that they will be even stronger for the clients. I cherish this aspect of my job.

When I went to Deb’s blog to make my donation, there was a new post about what a beautiful gift family photography is, where she linked to another post called is there a perfect time? Both of these posts were so perfect for me to read today. They left me inspired and determined to have more  family pictures taken this year.

Hi Thea!

I don´t know exactly HOW I ended up here (perhaps I followed a link from Ashley Ann´s blog – Under the Sicamore – or from Valerie Koop´s blog – Be in the moment photography)… but I just loved your blog!

Your pictures are amazing! The writing is great!

I do not always comment, cause I´m at work. But when I saw THIS post, I knew I have to leave a comment! I lost my dear loving young husband, last year, in a car accident, when he was helping people from a previous accident. I was left with 2 little ones, bills to pay, a life to star all over again and… tones of pictures of the 4 of us!!! I have a box full of them! And I´m so gratefull for it!!!!

Each year, at Fernando´s birthday, we (the 3 musketeers) started a campaign about love and family. It´s called “spend time with someone you love”. Last year, a group of friends joined it. This May 31st, we had a blog and we posted about our campaign. It was awesome to see people all over (that we do not know in person!) spending 5 special minutes with their loved ones and telling us their days!

It´s our way to remember loved ones! Loving the ones that are still with us!

Thanks for giving us another idea!

Kisses and blessings.

What love surrounds you– there is love all around you.

and I love you so, E

My sister passed away from cancer 6 years ago and I also wish that my kids could have met her. I am so thankful for the pictures we have of her but I wish there were 100s more! I too take a lot of pictures (sometimes too many according to my kids) but I know they will cherish them one day.

…holding you with love & light…

I miss her too, and wish Trey could have known her. They would have had a blast running around her meadow and gardens in Woodstock.

But, there is a lot of your mother in you, don’t forget that. It comes through in the way you relate with Trey. She is very much in his life, through you.

Somerset Studio Article

This morning my husband brought in the mail and I was delighted to see this in the pile:

I have a dream.

My dream is to share through words and photographs, behind the scenes glimpses into the lives of artists and creative souls that I have been blessed to cross paths with. To share the wisdom that blossoms from our connecting and sharing. I have had this dream for at least a year now, and haven’t been sure how it will manifest. I still don’t know what forms this will take, but the collaborative article  “Sarah Ahearn Bellemare: Artist, Author and Mother“, that will be in the March/April Issue of the Somerset Studio Publication is the first manifestation of this dream.

After many all day photo sessions and conversations with Sarah, while working with her on her book, Painted Pages: Feuling Creativity Through Sketchbooks and Mixed Media (Quary Books, 2011), I found myself utterly inspired to share some of our experience with others.

My lovely and talented friend, Writer/Author Christine Chitnis encouraged me to pitch* my story idea and photographs to Stampington & Company for possible publication. I was over the moon when Christen over at Stampington & Company, replied to my pitch saying she liked the idea and thought it would be great for their publication, Somerset Studio.

So with deep gratitude to Sarah for her friendship, openness and support, here is a peek at the article. It should be on news stands soon…

*Christine Chitnis will be teaching a class called Pitch perfect at the Fall 2011 Squam Art Workshops in New Hampshire. She is a wealth of information and a wonderful teacher. If you are interested in learning how to pitch stories to publications this is a class that will help you tremendously!

How exciting!!!!! Congrats!
